The Department of Physiology is among the premier dept. of GMC started with the inception of the institute. It is situated at the 4th floor of Gauhati medical College building at Narakasur hill top in Bhangagarh, Guwahati. The physiology Department is providing medical education and training to undergraduate and post graduate medical students and also of various other courses including BDS, paramedical courses nursing etc.

The Dept is also included in academic as well as research in the fields of Neurophysiology, Pulmonary physiology in accordance with post graduates training activities in respective laboratories in the department. Recently introduced serological and molecular facilities are also being upgraded.

For the undergraduate students the department is equipped with hematology laboratory, human physiology laboratory, mammalian and amphibian laboratory and experimental physiology laboratory.

The Department of Physiology also has an excellent library with latest editions of textbooks as well as reference books.
