The department of Dermatology, Gauhati Medical College & Hospital, was started in the year 1977. The department consists of 2 Professors, 1 Associate Professor, 1 Assistant Professor and 3 registrars The Out Patient Deptt. is held 6 days a week from 9.00 AM to 2.00 PM with an average of 180 patients/day. There is an Upgraded Urban Leprosy Centre attached to the OPD consisting one each of Senior Medical & Health Office, Health Educator, Non-Medical Supervisor (NMS), Jr. Assistant, Peon , Driver and Helper. One STD Clinic with a STD in-charge & Councilor is also attached. There are 44 beds in the departmental ward which consist of 12 beds for Hansen’s disease and 32 beds for other conditions.

The Seminar room is attached to the departmental ward where weekly Seminars, Journal Clubs and Clinical presentations are held. There is a side Laboratory attached to the Deptt. Various Dermatosurgical procedures and PUVA therapy are being done regularly. LASER therapy is done on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday.

The Deptt. has an annual intake of 4 Post-graduate seats. Besides, the regular academics, CMEs, Workshops and Guest lectures are being held from time to time in the Deptt.
