Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care, GMCH

The Department of Anaesthesiology and Critical Care at Gauhati Medical College and Hospital delivers comprehensive perioperative care across all the hospital blocks, including the MCH Block, CN Centre, and Superspeciality Block. This includes anaesthesia for major and minor surgeries, as well as diagnostic and interventional procedures outside the operating room. The department provides anaesthesia services for both elective and 24/7 emergency surgeries across various specialties for patients with diverse co morbidities. Our expertise encompasses anaesthesia and pain management for a wide range of procedures, from day-care surgeries to complex operations such as open-heart surgeries and awake craniotomies. We serve as a part of brain death certification committee as well as maintenance of brain stem death patients till organ retrieval. Additionally, the department provides anaesthesia service for both live and deceased donor renal transplants and bone marrow transplants.

The department manages a 54-bed Intensive Care Unit for critically ill patients and offers a robust training program for postgraduate students. As a part of an interdisciplinary team, our faculty actively engage in various simulation-based training in the state-of-the-art Skill and Simulation Lab of the institution, including basic and advanced life support skills training. We also actively engage in academic and research activities to advance the field.
