Department of Clinical Haematology is a Super Specialty of Medicine. Starting of from its inception as an unit under Department of Medicine with 8 Male and 4 female beds, the Deptt. of c.inical Haematology became a fully fledged Department. In 2001 Department at various times being headed by Prof. A.K. Bhattacharyya Associate Prof. Late D.N. Das, Prof P.K.Gogoi and now Prof. Jina Bhattacharyya. Department has 3 faulties, 2 Registrar and 1 medical officer, DM Trainees runs 2 OPD and 3 Special Clinic every weeks. The ward has 39 beds, a day care centre Thalassemia, an ASTC for Hemophilla patients. DM corses has been started from 2021 with two students and there are regualar academics in the department. Department has been enagged in a number of welfare awarness programme like Hemophilla Day, Thalassemia Day, Lymphoma Day , CML Day. Beside the department has sucessfully held National conference Hematocon (Nov, 2006 Nov, 2017) Beside others like NESHCON annually and various other CMES as part of academic and knowledge sharing. In the most recent success of BMT has been another feather in the cap for the Department.

Services

Laboratory services

The laboratory facility of the department has carries out the basic hematological tests.
Following tests are done at Hematology laboratory

  1. Complete Blood Count (CBC)
  2. Hemoglobin Electrophoresis (HPLC)
  3. Protein Electrophoresis (SPEP)
  4. Prothombin Time (PT)
  5. Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time (APTT)
  6. Peripheral Blood Smear (PBS) Study
  7. Bone Marrow Aspiration (BMA) Study
  8. Bone Marrow Transplant, PICC Line inseration, Intrathecal drugs delivery
Outdoor services
  1. The department runs OPD on three days in a week :Monday, Tuesdays & Wednesday from 8:00 AM to 3:00 PM
  2. The department also run special clinic on three days in a week.
    1. Lymphoma-Leukaemia Clinic on every Monday.
    2. Hemophilia & Thalassemia Clinic on every Saturday.
Indoor services

The department has twenty one (21) beds for indoor patients. Patients are also being treated in the new paying cabin block (NPC) regularly with chemotherapy.

Day Care

Day care facility of the department runs from 8:00AM till evening from Monday to Saturday every week and caters to the following patients 1) Patients taking chemotherapy and component therapy on day care basis 2) Thelassemic children coming for blood transfusion 3) Hemophilia patients come for Antihemophilic factor (AHF) infusion etc. Following diagnostic & therapeutic procedures are also carried out daily :

  1. Bone Marrow Aspiration
  2. Bone Marrow Biopsy
  3. Lumbar Puncture
  4. Intrathecal treatment
  5. Central line insertion
  6. Central line care / dressing etc.

Others

The department conducts regular weekly seminar in the seminar room. The department also observes World Thalassemia Day / World Hemophilia Day / World Lymphoma Day / World Cancer Day with various activities including CME, public awareness programme, patient doctors interaction, activities amongst patients like Art competition, Quiz competition etc.

Ongoing Project

The department is doing different cancer research projects in collaboration with Indian Institute of Technology- Guwahati, Gauhati University and National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) under DBT and ICMR.
