The Department of ENT Gauhati Medical College and Hospital was first established in the year 1960 headed by then Principal Prof. S.N Sarma MS (ENT). The Department was then started with 30beds in Panbazar and thereafter shifted to Bhangagarh. Since then the Department has been sincerely rendevouring service both to patients and teaching of PG and UG students.

The department presently comprises of 60 beds with two units out of which there are 32 male beds and 28 female beds. It is efficiently run by eleven faculty members headed by Prof. (Mrs.) Kalpana Sharma. There are well equipped OPD and OT premises with tumor, vertigo and deafness clinic attached to OPD. We have state of the ort audiological set up offering all audiological procedures including BERA and OAE.

Presently the department is conducting all types of major surgeries of ear, nose, throat and Head & Neck Surgeries including cochlear implant under “snehasparsa” scheme. The Department has regularly organized CME, seminar and live Surgical workshop for the benefit the post graduate students.

Apart from general and regular surgeries, Micro-ear surgery, skull base surgery, head & Neck oncosurgery, Endoscopic surgeries, laser surgery and facial & cosmetic surgeries also done.
