Superspeciality Hospital: Gauhati Medical College & Hospital

Our Superspeciality Hospital, constructed under PMSSY III, was inaugurated for the public by the Hon'ble Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma on January 1, 2021. Before its regular operations, this hospital served as the central specialty care center for the entire North East during the first and second waves of the COVID-19 pandemic (2020-2021).

Facilities and Services

Outpatient and Inpatient Care:

The hospital sees an average daily OPD attendance of approximately 500 patients and has an indoor bed capacity of 263, with 183 beds equipped with continuous oxygen supply.

Intensive Care Units:

A 20-bed Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a Neonatal ICU, and two pharmacies ensure comprehensive patient care.

Advanced Operating Theatres:

Equipped with six state-of-the-art modular operation theatres, including a separate OT for kidney transplants.

Laboratory Services:

Supported by a robust team from the Biochemistry, Microbiology, and Pathology departments.

Specialized Surgeries and Treatments:

Offers regular gastroenterological endoscopic surgeries, emergency surgeries for children, gastrointestinal surgeries, and sophisticated interventional radiological services. The hospital is equipped with the latest DSA machine and CT scan technology.

Comprehensive Care

Diabetes and Endocrinal Disorders:

Provides comprehensive care for diabetic patients and those with complex endocrine diseases, including modern bone mineral density (BMD) machines and a metabolic laboratory.

Kidney Failure and Dialysis:

One of the most advanced centers for kidney failure patients in the state, offering 24-hour dialysis services with an in-house renal laboratory.

Urology Department:

Specializes in critical urological cancer surgeries, advanced laser surgeries for kidney stones and prostate enlargement, and regular kidney transplantation operations from living-related donors. The department is equipped with:

  • 2 extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy machines
  • 3 different laser systems
  • The most modern 4K laparoscopic imaging system
  • All major energy sources, including monopolar, bipolar, advanced bipolar (LigaSure), ultrasonic (Harmonic), a combination of bipolar and ultrasonic energy (Thunderbeat), and advanced cordless ultrasonic energy (Sonicision), which is unmatched in any single center worldwide.

 

Milestones

For the first time, our dedicated teams from the Urology, Nephrology, Anesthesiology, and allied departments successfully conducted deceased donor kidney transplantation at the Superspeciality Hospital
