The Department of Cardiothoracic Surgery came in to being in 1972 under the leadership of Prof B. K. Gogoi after it was bifurcated from the Department of General Surgery. Since then it has been providing yeoman service to not only to the people of Assam but to the North Eastern states as a whole. The Department added another feather to it’s cap when it started doing Open Heart Surgery in 2006,following the tireless efforts of Prof.Dhiman Choudhury. With one step at at a time the department has achieved new heights and now carries out all cardiac surgical, thoracic and peripheral vascular procedures.

- Vascular Surgical procedures such as Aneurysm repair, Pseudoaneurysm repair and post traumatic vessel injury repairs.
