GMCH was established in the year 1960 . Postgraduate courses in Pathology department were started in the year 1971 with 3 MD and 3 DCP seats and recognized in 1976 . Now the PG seats have increased . Since its inception , the department is continuing its service to the people of north east .

From the primitive laboratory investigative methods , the dept. has been upgraded to newer techniques . For central cytology lab section , we have autoanalyser . Histopathology and cytopathology section too is giving tremendous service . Newly IHC , PCR ANF FROZEN SECTION have been started .

Services

ACADEMIC ACTIVITY – UG , PG , BDS and DMLT

There is one seminar , one journal club and one case discussion done per week

The Blood bank under Pathology dept. is the only state of the art model blood bank in the entire north east . Around 100 units of blood are issued to the needy . Regular training and workshop on blood safety and rational use of blood is given to lab technicians of north east region . It has component facility and very soon apheresis will be started .

1. 1.Dr . Ena Dowerah Prof. and Dr. U Sarma , Asso . Prof of Pathology have been awarded the degree of Ph.D by Gauhati University and Dr . Junu Devi has been registered as research scholar under SSUHS .
2. 1.One research project titled “ Utility of P 16 INK 4a , ki- 67 and L1 Capsid protein as biomarker of CIN and cervical cancer ” by Dr. Usha Sarma , Asso Prof. as principal investigator.
3. 1.Every year there is publication of Research paper by the faculty members in indexed national and international medical journal of high impact value.
