SIGNIFICANT SERVICES / ACHIEVEMENTS (Upto August 31st, 2025):

The GMCH Fertility & IVF Centre was started from oct 2022 with OPD and IUI procedures initially. IVF was started since June 2023. Since then there has been more than 250 IVF cycles with 54 pregnancies and 19 healthy babies delivered till now. Success rate of IVF is 37%. Till date over 340 IUI procedures have been done with 12% success rate. Also there has been once 50 pregnancies from OPD consultation, medication and life style medication alone. The OPD attendance has significantly increased over the years with more infertile couple availing ART procedures at affordable cost. It has been a boon for many such couples who could not avail treatment till now due to financial constraints.
A total of 162 renal transplants have been performed in the Urology and Nephrology Department, GMCH, since 2004. Eighteen were done last year. The first cadaveric transplant was completed on December 13, 2023, followed by deceased donor transplantation involving 2 donors and 4 recipients.
From 1st September 2024 to 31st August 2025, Department of Cardiology, GMCH has performed a total of 1,382 cardiac interventions—including both coronary and structural procedures such as ASD and PDA device closures, BMV, and BPV—alongside 819 cardiac implantable electronic device implantations (including pacemakers, ICDs, and CRTs), serving beneficiaries not only from Assam but also from other North Eastern states and neighboring countries like Bangladesh.
The Model Blood Centre, GMCH, has been selected as one of the 11 Nodal Proficiency Testing providers in India for EQAS. It was awarded among the top 20 blood centres of India at the National Conclave of Blood Transfusion Services held in Kochi on February 5–6, 2025.
Department of Orthopaedics has completed 10 cases of Robotic Total Knee replacements with good results. Lead by Dr H C Frank, we have started Robotic TKR in the Department of Orthopedics since March , 2025.
Our robotic system Misso by Meril employs a Computer assisted navigation and robotic assistance for accurate alignment and bone cuts. Here we do a pre-operative CT scan of the patient which we feed into the computer. The surgeon and the inbuilt AI system does a pre operative planning where the amount of bone cuts and the implant size are decided.
The Department of Haematology at GMCH has performed 44 bone marrow transplants (28 autologous, 15 allogeneic, 1 haplo).

NEW ADDITIONS

1. Rheumatology OPD

The Rheumatology and Immunology OPD and indoor services started on April 6, 2025. It manages joint, bone, muscle, tendon, and immunological disorders such as SLE, Sjögren’s, Scleroderma, Vasculitis, and Myositis. Around 1,600 patients have been treated. The OPD runs every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday near the Emergency Department, with services for both adults and children.

2. Liver Transplant OPD

GMCH started the Liver Transplant and Hepato-Pancreatico-Biliary OPD on June 19, 2025, led by Dr. Rup Goswami. The infrastructure is ready, and the first liver transplant is planned soon.

3. Newborn Screening

The Departments of Biochemistry, MRU, Paediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynaecology have begun Newborn Screening for metabolic and genetic disorders. ELISA tests are done at the Cardiothoracic & Neuroscience Centre, GMCH.

Currently screening includes:

Neonatal TSH (Congenital Hypothyroidism)
Neonatal 17-OHP (Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia)
Total Galactose (Galactosemia)
G6PD (G6PD deficiency)
Neonatal PKU (Phenylketonuria)

Planned additions:

Neonatal IRT (Cystic Fibrosis)
Total Biotinidase (Biotinidase deficiency)
Neonatal MSUD (Maple Syrup Urine Disease)

4. Rare Disease OPD

GMCH handles rare disease cases such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA). Genetic testing is available at MRU and VRDL at reduced cost. A dedicated Rare Disease OPD runs every Saturday since February 1, 2025.
